in the early morning mist,
a swarm of brightly colored beetle-bicyclists
with shiny helmets and fluorescent shirts
stream past me in the left lane
in groups of 2 and then 3 --
one after the other after the other
for more than two miles
until I pass the one or two
that trail behind
